Autumn is a great time to be out in the garden. Here are our tips to get the most out of your garden at this time.
Make sure you have plenty of room in your compost bins in preparation for the onset of autumn leaves. Gather up the leaves once they fall and add to your compost bin, alternating with layers of kitchen scraps.
Before the cold winter sets in, prune and tidy your hedges. This will keep them looking compact and bushy, ready for new growth in spring.
Eliminate weeds within your lawns by giving them a weed spray. Aerate the lawns with a garden fork, preferably when the ground underneath is wet. Then add some lime to your lawn to sweeten it up.
Give all garden beds a feed with a complete fertiliser to keep your plants strong over the winter months. Remember to water this in well so the nutrients get down to the roots of the plant.
Autumn is a great time to plant, the temperatures are cooler and the soil still has some warmth in it. Fill up any gaps in garden beds and not only will you have lovely new growth in spring you will also make less space for weeds to set in. make sure you freshen up your soil and add fertiliser and wetting agents to get the best results from your planting.
