Get your garden ready for Christmas
Posted on November 16, 2016
Christmas… hmmm do we want to think about it yet? If you are like me, probably not. Whether you are bursting at the seams to hang your Christmas decorations or not, one thing you do need to think about in advance is the garden. If you are having friends and family over for celebrations and you want your garden to be looking tip-top, now is the time to address that.
Hedging needs to be done before hot weather sets in and doing it a month or so out from the date will ensure hedges will have plenty of time to recover and look the best on the day.
Fertilise and weed lawns now so they are green, healthy and weed free come Christmas, ready for that game of family cricket. Consider putting your mower height up a notch or two as well to allow the lawn to become lush and soft.
Take care of all your spring weeds so that you will only have to tidy the garden over the busy festive season - while you are at it, does your garden need mulch? Topping up your mulch will reduce weeds and hold in all the lovely moisture we have gained over spring for a little longer.
Lastly, now is the time to put in your summer annuals to give your garden that pop of colour over Christmas. Petunias give you a heavy hit of colour with their large flowers and they come in all sorts of colours, even patterns, so you can match them to your Christmas colour theme! Fertilise at the time of planting and Seasol weekly to ensure your living decorations are healthy and vibrant come Chrissy day.
